FDA Approval for Calan - Verapamil

Manufacturing and selling of Calan-Verapamil Hcl medicine approved by Food and Drugs Administration - FDA during March 1982 meant for treating chest pain like angina, high blood pressure or hypertension and irregular heartbeats. Calan-Verapamil Hcl belongs to the group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It is believed to block the movement of calcium into the muscle cells of coronary arteries that supply the blood besides other arteries in the body. As calcium triggers muscle contraction and blocking calcium entry relaxes the arterial muscles. Such relaxation helps the arteries to expand permitting more blood supply.

Calan-Verapamil Hcl is effective in preventing chest pain or angina occurring from spasms of coronary arteries that decreases the flow of blood to the heart. Relaxing the muscle lining, the arteries in the body lowers blood pressure which helps decrease pressure against which the heart pumps blood. This in turn permits the heart function normal and need normal oxygen-carrying blood supply. This permits heart working with decreased flow of blood caused by coronary artery ailment and put off angina which usually develops following insufficient blood supply to the heart. The drug is also believed to reduce the conduction of electrical impulses through the heart which regulates the coordination of contraction. This effects slow down the rate of contraction.

Calan-Verapamil Hcl is the prescription category of medication and its dosage should be taken strictly as directed by the physician. The medication has been approved for its dose strengths such as: 40, 80, 120mg in immediate release tablet forms, 120, 180, 240, 360mg in sustained release caplet form, 100, 120, 180, 200, 240, 300mg in extended release tablet form and 2.5mg/ml for injectable dose.
