Calan is branded prescription medicine manufactured by Pfizer Inc.
from Verapamil Hydrochloride as active ingredient. The drug is
recommended for use in treating high blood pressure and chest pain
like angina. Chest pain develops due to insufficient oxygen-carrying
blood is delivered to the heart muscles. This condition may occur as
blockage of blood flow in the coronary arteries due to coronary
artery ailments or spasms or else due to excessive physical actions
which raise workload of the heart muscles and in turn heart demands
more oxygen.
Calan-Verapamil Hydrochloride is used for treating and preventing
angina pains occurring due to certain artery ailments and spasms and
because of excessive physical labor. The drug is also used for
treating high blood pressure disorders. The drug slows down the
electrical conduction of electrical impulses through the heart.
Calan is well used for treating abnormally faster hearth rhythms
like atrial fibrillation and preventing persistent occurrences of
rapid heart rhythms that usually develop from atria.
The recommended dosage of Calan-Verapamil Hydrochloride is
180mg-480mg taken once, twice or thrice every day according to the
formulation being used or prescribed by the doctor depending on the
health of an individual patient. The drug should be taken with
foods. Calan-Verapamil Hydrochloride is calcium channel blocker.
Calcium is involved in blood vessel contraction and in managing
electrical impulses within the heart. Calan-Verapamil Hydrochloride
relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking calcium and normalizes
heartbeats. Calan-Verapamil Hydrochloride is used to treat chest
pain or angina, high blood pressure or irregular heartbeats.
